CATHERINE GONET (nee Zubek), age 86 of Middleburg Heights, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Beloved wife of Lawrence (deceased) for 65 years; loving mother of Raymond (Rita), Frank, Mary Hinton (Brad), Leonard (Chris) and Wally (Amy); proud Babci of “Kay’s Grandchildren”: Michael Hinton, Rachel Zitko (Tom), Ray Gonet, Jr., Becky Hinton, Christine Gonet, Brian Gonet, George Gonet, Grace Gonet and Max Gonet; sister of Anthony Zubek (Adele) (both deceased), Bro. Stanley Zubek, S.M., Frank Zubek (JoAnn) and Mary Jean Kustra (Ed); sister-in-law to Clifford Gonet (Jane); aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Kay was involved in many organizations throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the Parma Polish American League, Holy Family Church, Holy Family PTU and Christian Family Movement. She was President of Parma Preschool PTA and organizer of the Polish Christmas Mass, “Pasterka”, for many years.

While Kay was a wonderful cook (golabki, pierogi, Swedish meatballs), she really loved baking. Every major family party included her cheesecake. Her most coveted way of thanking someone was with a fresh nut roll. Homemade Polish bread at Easter and Christmas was a specialty.

Kay and Larry loved their Polish heritage, traditions, and polka music, following bands to many dances and trips including Poland. Kay became the official photographer of the Cleveland Polka Association.

The Gonets were central to building neighborhoods of inclusion, compassion and fun. From early years with Gordon Drive block parties to Wexford community donut parties, luncheons and dinners out, this set the stage for what would turn into eternal friendships. Kay welcomed everyone, always introducing herself and making them feel comfortable. She genuinely cared about others, taking time to inquire about someone’s situation, asking questions, then listening quietly and intently. She knew what to say and when to say it. As a humble leader with a servant’s heart, she also spent countless hours visiting and caring for sick and elderly friends and family.

Kay was loved and adored by everyone who met her. She will be deeply missed and remembered forever.

Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, 7367 York Rd., Parma, Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10 a.m. Please meet at church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends received at The Ripepi Funeral Home, 5762 Pearl Rd. (at Snow Rd.), Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
