DEACON CHARLES W. ZAWADZKI (Retired) died Saturday, 30 March 2024, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.
Charles W. Zawadzki was born on 20 September 1936. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marian (nee Wish), children Debbie Mercurio (Vincent, deceased), Joe Zawadzki, Lynn Zawadzki, Chuck Zawadzki (Debbie), Theresa Martin (T.J.) and Ken Zawadzki; grandchildren Chuck (Betty), Erik (Stephanie), Nick (Heather), Kelsey (Mike), Danny (Janice), Sean, Brian, Caitlyn, Patrick, Brendan, Christopher (Valentina), Brenna, Aiden, Johnathan, Kristie (Charles), Kenny and Kendra and great-grandchildren Vinny, Tony, Addison, Evan, Abbey, Aaron and Damjana; son of the late Charles and Estelle (nee Gaba); brother of Daniel (Nancy), Marianne, Kobie (Joe) and the late Sr. Charlene, SSJ and Sr. Deanne, SSJ; beloved uncle and dear friend of many. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4170 North Amber Dr., Brooklyn, OH 44144.
On 20 May 1995 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Anthony M. Pilla ordained Charles W. Zawadzki to the Permanent Diaconate for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Deacon Zawadzki was assigned to serve Corpus Christi, Cleveland. During this assignment he was assigned interim Parish Life Coordinator of Corpus Christi, Cleveland on 1 June 2004. On 1 November 2009 Deacon Zawadzki was assigned to serve St. Thomas More, Brooklyn where he served until his retirement on 15 April 2016. Deacon Chuck was a kind and gentle soul who dedicated his life to his family and ministry. He always put others first and considered his vocation of marriage and diaconate a great blessing in his life. He will truly be missed.
The wake will begin on Thursday, 4 April 2024, in St. Thomas More Church, 4170 N Amber Dr, Brooklyn, OH 44144 at 3:00 p.m. with Vespers and will continue until 7:00 p.m. Bishop Edward C. Malesic will preside and Father Jack Manning will be the homilist. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 5 April 2024 in St. Thomas More Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Roger Gries will be the main celebrant and Father Bill Bouhall will be the homilist. Private Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Deacon Zawadzki and all our bishops, priests and deacons who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
