DEACON GEORGE J. REILAND, JR. (Retired), age 97; Beloved husband of the late Eleanor (nee McCoy) for 62 years; loving father of George (deceased) (Liz), Robert (Kay), William (Mary), Raymond (Tess), Christopher (Cheryl), Mark and the late John, James and Mary Ellen; dearest grandfather, great-grandfather and great great-grandfather. Deacon Reiland was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and a retired math teacher for Parma City Schools.
On June 4, 1983 in the Cathedral of Saint John The Evangelist, Bishop Anthony M. Pilla ordained George J. Reiland to the Permanent Diaconate for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Deacon Reiland was assigned to serve Blessed Sacrament Parish, Cleveland. On December 1, 1988 he was assigned to serve Our Lady of Angels Parish, Cleveland. Deacon Reiland was granted retirement on October 2, 1992.
The wake will begin on Wednesday, 21 August 2024 in St. John Bosco Church, 6480 Pearl Rd., Parma Heights at 3:00 p.m. with Vespers and will continue until 7:00 p.m. Bishop Roger Gries will preside and Deacon Ed Gardias will be the homilist. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 22 August 2024 in St. John Bosco Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Martin J. Amos will be the main Celebrant and Father Donald P. Oleksiak will be the homilist. Private Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
