Dino’s parents moved to Fairview Park and built a home on Haber Drive along with several other families to help build each other’s homes together and raise their families together. Dino made lifelong friends at Parkview Elementary, St Angela’s and Fairview High School. Dino had stories of driving his dads Volkswagen to the store with him and getting pulled over before he was legal age and his dad letting him know won’t be able to do that again and couple days later his dad was wanting another ride to the store, he and his dad were best friends. Another is the school bus driver would pull in the driveway beep and the kids cheer and yell to make sure Dino made the bus. Dino and the neighborhood kids with their antics enjoyed hanging out at each other’s homes and in the field before 480 was constructed and riding his Honda 50. There are a multitude of stories to share from family and friends too many to mention here. Dino had the opportunity to find another Honda 50 at a sport race track the seller was from Canada whose name was Dino also who just happened to have the exact Honda 50, he could not pass that up it brought him joy to ride his childhood streets again. That gave him a passion to get his 1st motorcycle a 2004 Harley Davidson Fatboy. Dino had the opportunity on one of his H.O.G rides to meet and ride with Willy G Davidson on the Blue Ridge Parkway it was a stunning ride. Dino took pride with the custom paint detailing of real fire with the hidden image of dinosaurs and volcano erupting painted by Nick Pastura Motorsports. Dino’s love and passion of making new friends and enjoying his old friends. Dino had a great sense of humor also vivacious and a passion for enjoying life. Always a smile and positive. He could turn a negative into a positive. Make a faux a friend. He enjoyed his love of music and sports his command of recall to name bands and their songs also football players and their games he could call the next play or turnover. He started his auto career in 1979 with Lucas Auto Center he was with them for 20yrs to get a rise out of the kids he would walk and near run around on his hands effortlessly and if you thought you could escape being a target of a snowball fat chance he was a dead eye, you got nailed. Dino’s love of people, dedication and honesty has given him several generations of clients. The opportunity to know those parents and their kids who are now customers themselves and their own children now. They have a shop to take care of their needs with Dino. Dino getting associated with a company that opened a location in Westlake March 2003 it was not a cake walk it had its ups and downs. Over the years there of course were struggles to name a couple with getting the right fit of Tech’s, the financial big ones when the bubble bust in 2008 and COVID with these fluxes there was little time off. The shop had several talented Tech’s that for example had opportunities to leave and help in their dad’s auto shop (Scott) or seek out of state opportunities (Tyson) and (Mike G) going to the Metro Parks and (Kevin J) to NASA Research Lab Mechanic would leave another spot to fill. We wished the best all that had a chance to be with us to go on to other ventures. Currently the shop has a fantastic, loyal, talented group of Techs at Rad Air of Westlake we are very proud of Luis, Scott, Craig and Kevin and of course Norm a god send he has a great team to support him. Norm who had taken on the Shop Manager position with a passion to handle the shop work load and client’s needs that we had desperately needed from the start to work in unison with Dino. Dino felt they were all a blessing.
Now to the ugly part of life that has brought us to our current events. We had begun to notice little things with Dino in the last 8-9 years that when occurred like making decisions or the regular work load would chalk it up to other factors the sudden hearing loss in his left ear, medications, Covid, work stress or our household move, or Roz’s health scare, harder we tried to make sense of this and approached this as a simple adjustment in medications but soon found that after some incidences to continue to push for cognitive testing which he masked well the signs of Alzheimer’s dementia, which made it hard for the diagnosis he had finally gotten in 2022. We were still working on key players and supportive team yet in the shop to continue to meet the contractual agreement and finances, Roz was still recovering from Breast Cancer. She stepped in supported and protected him the best she could so he would not lose dignity. Then once she realized to not have him at the shop which was hard on him, we just considered it a type of retirement. We did not want him to lose his dignity or be made to feel incompetent. Then as a blessing we had got our key Tech’s in place. But with Dino it got harder and harder. This disease is not kind it comes with a stigma in society and in the medical field there has not been any one avenue to take and where to take your suffering loved one especially when you’re loved one who struggles doesn’t except or understand themselves. Luckily, we had a friend and client themselves who lost her husband to this disease that Roz could confide in and try to get direction thank you Luann, Bob was a beautiful man also.
This is not a pigeon hole of treatment it changes daily with their functioning and when mental mechanics are not there. End-stage Alzheimer’s dementia was an ugly and lonely journey that we shared to the end.
Delcina and Jason and I find this all to be unreal.
Vivian and Anthony want to play with Grandad. In a child’s view Vivian’s states, he just needs fresh air this will make him better or Anthony who feels his wet cold hands on your chest will heal him.
When I (Roz) admitted you to a place I do not find to be a place for Alzheimer’s patients and then trying to understand their guidelines trying to get you out to meet other facility guidelines for a different placement was a nightmare I did not realize you would not be coming back home. This past month as you lost consciousness, becoming weaker, not only not coming back home or be able to see or talk to us. Have you said my name one more time to try to have you see me. Last Saturday morning to have that window for you know me, to hug me to kiss me and say I love you. Bless that moment to have the kids have you that moment. That afternoon was to take our journey to hospice I would not leave your side and talk to you all night and day watch sunrises and sunsets.
Dino, I hold precious our champions in confidence and their visits to send you off to your next adventure.
You made me crazy and I love you; I miss your laugh.
I miss you deeply.
