Douglas Joseph Ganim, 81, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on January 23, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Douglas was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939 to the late Elizabeth and Joseph Ganim. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1957 and was a multiple sport standout athlete, earning Varsity letters in tennis, basketball, and baseball. Doug particularly excelled in tennis, winning the Ohio State Division I singles title in back to back years.  As one of the top junior tennis players in the country, the USTA selected him in 1957 as a member of the Jr. Davis Cup team to represent the United States in International competition.

Doug attended Bowling Green State University on a double sports scholarship (tennis and baseball). In 1959, he was drafted to play minor league pro baseball in the Kansas City farm system. He also began competing in semi-pro tennis events throughout the US. Once Doug married and started a family, he began a career with Aetna as an insurance salesman. He became one of the top performing agents in the region and worked his way into upper management. He spent his entire career with Aetna (which was purchased by ING during his stint with the company). He retired in 2004.

Family meant everything to Doug. He was a wonderful father to his two sons and proud member of the large extended Ganim Family. In 1993 he married the love of his life, Char, and was with her until her passing in 2016. He loved his Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, and was a loyal fan his entire life. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his high school friends and served as a committee member for their Class of 1957 reunions. Doug was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Maron's Church in Cleveland, Ohio.

Doug will be missed by all who knew him, especially everyone in the Ganim clan. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Douglas (Mary Beth) Ganim II of Westerville, Ohio, and David (Sandra) Ganim of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren, Douglas Ganim III, Logan Ganim, Juliann Ganim, Jonathan (Katie) Luchsinger, Kristopher Luchsinger and Laura Luchsinger; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Luchsinger and Jonathan Luchsinger II; sisters, Barbara Simone (Joseph 1993), and

Sharon Smiley Lusk (Brad); nieces and nephews, Cathy Knudsen (Charlie), Steven Simone (Tammy), Leo Simone (Lisa), and Neal Joseph Bird (Brianne); five great-nieces; two great-nephews; beloved cousins and many friends.

Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Joseph Ganim; wife and best friend, Charlotte (nee Rigo); bother-in-law, Joseph Simone; niece, Nancy Bird, and nephew, Michael Simone.
