Listen to Obituary

Emily M. Giacomazzo (née Thomas), age 97, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her Family passed away peacefully at the age of 97. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Giacomazzo, with whom she shared 51 beautiful years of marriage — a union built on enduring love, faith, and family.

Emily was the loving mother of Valmarie Zorila (Greg), Fred (Merri), and Frank; proud and doting “Situ” of Mario and Gianni; and adoring great-Situ of Malachi and Möbius.  She was the dear sister of George Thomas and Honon Thomas of Tucson, AZ, and a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many.

Emily’s life was marked by deep faith, unwavering devotion to family, and a joyful spirit that touched all who knew her. A leader and cheerleader in every sense, she played an active role in her church, served as a lunch lady at Heritage Christian School, and worked at Rite Aid and Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Her work ethic and kind heart were evident in everything she did.

Emily found joy in life’s simple pleasures — vacations to Arizona, celebrating birthdays, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her love of Bingo, prayer books, and the Rosary brought her peace and comfort. She was known for her vibrant smile, warm embrace, and her love of music.

A woman of deep faith, Emily was raised Catholic and later became a born-again Christian. She served in the Eucharistic ministry for many years and found great joy attending and supporting the Young at Heart Ministries at Cleveland Baptist Church.

Her life was a beautiful testament to love, service, and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Memorial Mass will be held in honor of Emily at St. John Bosco Church, 6480 Pearl Rd., on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends will be received at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Brother Beaver, who knew Emily dearly, will deliver the eulogy. He prayed with her often, brought her comfort in times of need, and will speak lovingly about the faithful, spirited woman she was.

Emily will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, reunited with her beloved husband, Frank.

Let us now lift our hearts and voices—just as she did for so many—and cheer on Emily, one final time, with the same joy, love, and unwavering spirit she gave to all of us.
