GEORGE AMBRUS, JR., age 95, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Barbara (nee Kankula) for 57 years; devoted father of Erzsebet Vesei (Charles), Shari St. Clair (Robert) and George M. Ambrus (Tami); cherished grandfather of Lehel Somogyi, Hajnal Womack, Csaba Somogyi, Vince Vesei, Sofia Vesei, Kailey Mau (Stephan), Renee Flood (Michael), Brett St. Clair (Morgan), Zachary Ambrus, Tyson Ambrus, Amber Halpin (Mark), Devon Funk (AJ) and Taylor Rasor (Justin); dear great-grandfather of Ava, Lincoln, Barrett, Hudson and many others; brother of the late Miklos Ambrus, Matild Hatszegi (Sandor) and Ilona Kemes (Laszlo); devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews. George was born in Szeged, Hungary and immigrated to the United States after WWII. Years later he would settle in Cleveland where he met his wife, Elizabeth. He worked for the Lutheran Brotherhood and then Bardons & Oliver for 42 years where he was a friend and mentor. George loved his family and nature and was an avid reader. He was very active in the Lutheran church where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday school. George was always ready to help family and friends and was loved by all who knew him. His family deeply appreciates the support of New Life Hospice and suggests contributions made to them in his memory.
