Georgette Estephan, (nee Salloum) beloved loving wife of Elie Estephan for 62 years, was born July 9, 1937 in Kherbet, Kanafar, Lebanon, to Alya Naim Salloum and Boutros Salloum. Elie and Georgette married on May 9, 1963. They moved to the United States on October 26, 1968.
Georgette is survived by her husband, Elie Estephan, daughter Najwa (Nazih) Chedid, daughter Sanaa Estephan Julien, son Joseph (Dora) Estephan, grandchildren Elie (Lyndsey) Stephan, Joseph (Erin) Stephan, Amira Julien, Nicolette (Ryan) Zahniser, Julia Estephan, John Chedid, Carolina (Nate) Velazquez, Karina Chedid-Nader, Isabella Estephan, Joseph Estephan Jr., her great grandchildren Parker Stephan, Mila Stephan, Georgette Stephan, Emma Stephan, Roman Stephan, and sisters Margaret (Michel, deceased) Estephan and Therez (Fouad) Chedid and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgette was loved by so many friends and extended family members.
Georgette is preceded in death by her mother, Alya Naim Salloum and father Boutros Salloum, sisters Josephine (Anthony) Abraham, Genevieve (Phillip) Abraham, Jeanette (Toufic) Haddad, Adibe Salloum, and brother Joseph (Sadie) Salloum, and niece Rima Abraham.
A trailblazer in her youth, Georgette led a group of young ladies to petition the principal at the high school in the Kherbet Kanafar village to allow them to attend high school. They were granted attendance as the first year of female students at the high school. This led to Georgette graduating and becoming a teacher at Collège St. Jean in Kherbet Kanafar. Georgette taught until she married her husband Elie. Many of her students have remained in her community until her passing.
Georgette was an impeccable hostess whose generosity of heart, home, and table defined her life. She welcomed others with warmth and grace, sharing her love and Lebanese heritage through meals that brought people together and made everyone feel they belonged.
Above all, Georgette was a wife and mother. She was proud of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and took every opportunity to brag about them to others. She loved to share her husband’s work and the work of the company they built together.
