Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald (Jerry) Minissale, Sr. announce his sudden passing on Thursday, January 16th at the age of 71.

Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Thelma; children, Monica, Tracy (Richard), Erica (Jose), Joseph, the late Gerald Jr. (Elsie), grandchildren, Roni (Thomas), Brenden, Jaylenne (Robert), Jordan, Thad (Allison), Isaiah, Carissa, Connor, Dominic, Benjamin, Alexia, Deric, and Layla, great grandchildren, Madisyn, Avarie, Emilia, Kinleigh, Aurora, Myles, the late infant grandchild Richard, and the expected great grandchild (Thad & Allison) this summer, sister Linda, and brother Ron Fredericy, and numerous other family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents James and Josephine, siblings, James, John, Michael and Mary.

Throughout his life, there was nothing Jerry enjoyed more than spending time with his family.  He spoke fondly of the summers spent on his grandparent’s farm, and of growing up in the Murray Hill neighborhood.  The oldest of seven children and a family man throughout his life, he and Thelma coordinated many routine camping trips to Hidden Lakes in Mt. Gilead, summer picnics at Wallace Lake, and annual visits to various amusement parks in neighboring states.  Following his retirement from the Cleveland Public Library, Sunday dinners with children, grandchildren, and extended family became routine, and still continue today.  He was an animal lover, and considered the many pets throughout the years members of the family.  He loved the City of Cleveland and remained an unwavering supporter of all the sports teams despite their challenges.

The impact and influence he has had on his family is beyond measure, and will still be felt by the generations to come.

As Jerry requested, there will be no funeral service, and he will be cremated after receiving his final blessing.  To honor his wishes, a “noisy and lively” Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
