James B. Roski, age 89 of Lakewood, Ohio passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, May 7, 2023. Born on July 4, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio, James was the son of Peter and Jane (O’Donnell) Roski. James was a U.S. Army veteran, an engineer, an avid gardener, a lifelong learner, and above all else, a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family. Throughout his life, James loved to learn and studied everything around him. He graduated from Benedictine High School in 1952, served honorably in the US Army, and following his service he trained as an engineer. He married Ruby Ann in 1960 and they lived in Lakewood, Ohio where they raised four children and watched over five grandchildren. He was known as “Pop Pop” to his grandkids, with whom he shared many stories, lessons, and unforgettable proverbs like “too much laughing leads to crying” and “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” He enjoyed reading the Plain Dealer every day and always saved clippings of the funnies to share. On any given day, you would find him watching the Weather Channel’s “Local on the 8s,” tending to tomatoes and garlic in his garden, or charting the nighttime sky. Whether it was sitting and eating chives together on an unopened bag of soil in the backyard, or testing a questionable science experiment, Pop Pop brought out the adventure, curiosity, imagination, and even a little mischief in all of us. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. James is survived by his four loving children, his son and daughter-in-law, and five beautiful grandchildren. We will miss and cherish his memory always. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Clement Catholic Church on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 10am. Please meet at the church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends received at the Ripepi Funeral Home, 5762 Pearl Road (at Snow Rd.) on Friday, May 12 from 4-7pm.
