Listen to Obituary

Jean Adeliade ‘Addie’ Young (nee Witthuhn), passed away peacefully on November 9th at the age of 94 in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents were Walter and Kathryn Witthuhn. Addie attended Benjamin Franklin Elementary school, Rhodes High School, and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College in 1948 with a BA in history. Addie grew up in the Witthuhn floral business, and eventually owned and operated Walter & Kathryn Witthuhn’s floral shop on West 25th St in Cleveland. Addie married her high school sweetheart Warren J. Young in September, 1949 following a proposal at a Cleveland Indians World Series game in 1948. They raised three children Kathryn, Warren, and William in Parma Heights, Ohio. She laughed and smiled freely, was a generous friend, and enjoyed a good party. Addie evenly split her adult life residing in Parma Heights and later Lake Oswego, Oregon; gathering and retaining close friendships along the way. Through those years and locations, Addie always looked forward to ‘summering’ at the family cottage in Vermilion, Ohio. She was an avid lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Barons, and Cavaliers. Ever active, Addie served as a PTA president, Scout leader, Zonta club member, Bay Window publisher, water skiing instructor, and throughout her life remained engaged in her Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She enjoyed dogs and owned and cared for a long line of Dachshunds, always favorite companions .Addie is survived by her children and three grandsons; Miles, Evan, and Joseph. We are remembering Addie with a donation in her name to: The Cleveland Animal Protective League, 1729 Willey Ave, Cleveland Ohio, 44113.
