Listen to Obituary

JOAN E. EVANCHO, born May,1939 in Cleveland, OH, passed away August 12, 2025 with her daughter by her side.  Dearest mother of Janice; cherished wife of Joseph Evancho (deceased); dear sister and loving aunt of several nieces and nephews; longtime friend of many.

She was loving, caring and devoted to her family and friends.  Joan was a very kind and beautiful soul who loved music, entertainment, fashion, decorating, perfumes and lotions.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, eating at restaurants and always looked forward to the holidays and going on vacations.  She loved Antonio’s Pizza, Carrie Cerino's restaurant and Baker's Bakery date and nut cakes.  She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ.  Joan was the great guiding force to her daughter’s success in dancing and other endeavors.

Joan was a hard worker.  Her first job at age 16 was working at the American Greetings card factory in Cleveland, packaging cards for department stores and drug stores.  She also worked in the business office at William Taylor and Sons department store where she enjoyed using the comptometer and working at Nisner’s Dime Store on Saturdays during high school where she sold beautiful socks, played music records and loved running the cash register.  Joan graduated from West Tech High School in 1958.  After graduating, she took a job for a few years at Cleveland Trust Bank downtown where they taught her to use a bookkeeping machine.  She loved working there.

Joan was married in August 1960 and continued working part time, including jobs at Sterling Linder Department Store, selling gloves, Cleveland Paint and Color, and then back to American Greetings, in their business office, until her daughter was born.  She also worked at May Company Department Store in the business office downtown.  While her daughter was in school, she worked part time at Nazareth Academy, Parma, in the cafeteria, at Burrows Book Store downtown and Dairy Queen.

She faced several serious health issues and challenges over the years and, despite it all, kept a positive attitude and a loving smile.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter Janice, Angel the cat, her sister and brothers Jean Cooper (Keith), Robert Georgio (Charlotte, deceased) and Paul Georgio (Gail) and other extended family and friends.
