Listen to Obituary

John E. Tindira, 81, of Brook Park, Ohio passed away on October 16, 2023 with his beloved wife Kathleen (née Unocic) at his side. John and Kathleen married in 1964 and moved into their home on Kathleen Drive in 1966. They were part of a vibrant community of young families, many of whom remained close friends for decades. John was so proud of their home, especially the addition that he built with his father in 1995. He derived joy from the successes of his daughter Renee Habart and grandchildren Jessica Tindira, Carrie Burke (Jeremiah), Amanda Habart, Jonathan Habart, and Alison Habart. Every summer, John organized camping and canoeing trips for his grandchildren. John took full advantage of his membership in father-daughter and father-son groups at the Ridgewood YMCA: every weekend camping trip they offered, "Papa John" was there with at least one grandkid and a detailed plan to prank another cabin. In recent years, John’s days were filled with being the best Papa ever to his great-grandchildren McKenna and Mason Burke. His passion for education showed in the math and spelling challenges he issued McKenna, and his sense of fun always came through during wrestling matches with Mason.  John will always be remembered for his unconditional support of and love for his family. John was the eldest of five children and is remembered affectionately by his brothers Tom (Cheri), Andrew, and Raymond (Shirley), his sister Veronica (Paul, deceased), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. John and his siblings shared fond memories of their childhood in Tremont, often taking time to visit “the old neighborhood” for the day. They enjoyed all their time together, but never more than when they were camping. John was proud that he could provide for his family through a career that fulfilled his intellectual curiosity and mechanical expertise. He served in the Navy from 1958-1961 before earning his associate’s degree and certification as an HVAC technician. John retired as an HVAC supervisor at NASA, where he worked for twenty-five years. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bridget of Kildare Parish, 5620 Hauserman Rd., Parma, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 10 a.m. John will rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. Friends received to celebrate John’s life at THE RIPEPI FUNERAL HOME, 5762 PEARL RD. (AT SNOW RD.) TUESDAY 4-7 P.M.
