Masako "Masie" Yamauchi, was born on the 2nd of February 1924 in Los Angeles to Shoshichiro and Hisa Okane. She passed away 2 November 2024 at the age of 100 yrs. Masie and Ike Yamauchi were married for over 60 years and had 5 children. She worked tirelessly for 32 years as a mother and housewife, and after raising her family, she took a job working for the CCBDD working with young adults with intellectual disabilities until she retired. Masie was a woman of varied interests and hobbies: she loved to travel, go on cruises, creating Ikebana-flower arrangements, ballroom dancing, square dancing, sewing, drawing, making crafts, and more. She also enjoyed socializing and making new friends: weekly pinochle games, bowling, and participating in the JACL and CARP meetings and activities; were favorite pastimes. Masie, an American of Japanese descent, was born in the roaring 20s; thrived during the Great Depression on her family farm in Inglewood, California; was interned at Gila River internment center during WWII with her parents and 3 younger sisters; lived in Illinois; and finally settled in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, where she raised her family, passed her golden years, and came to rest. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, advocate, and a role model for all-to keep moving; to grow old gracefully; to be a good neighbor; and to give one’s time to those in need. She lived an extraordinary, full life, had the most remarkable smile, and heartwarming laugh. She will forever live on in our hearts and in those who will carry on her legacy into the future. Masie is survived by 4 children; Wanda "Suki" Warden, Lesley, Jonathan, and Donald, 8 grandchildren; Oliver, Kristen, Amy, Mia, Penelope, Sophia, Stella, Tyler and and 4 great-grandchildren; Andrew, Mia, Nicolai and Natasha. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, David and her beloved husband Ike.
Memorial Service will be at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, Calif where she will be interred in the family columbarium.
