Michael S. Wohar, Sr. — “Grandpa Mike” to the people who loved him most — passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 69.

He was the loving and devoted husband and best friend of Patty for 46 years. He was the father of his one and only son, Michael (Leigh) — a son he admired, respected, and was proud of beyond measure. And nothing lit him up more than his pride and joy, his two grandsons, Luke Owen and Logan Jude Wohar.

If you were ever at one of the boys’ baseball games, you probably heard him before you saw him — that booming “ATTA BOY!” from the stands was all Grandpa Mike. He loved talking Cleveland baseball with his grandsons and could spend hours recapping every play of every game with his son. He was thrilled to see pictures of the fish the boys caught, and one of his favorite activities was spending time at the Cleveland Zoo with them.

He was a huge Ohio State football fan and spent years working hard at Thistledown Racetrack, where his dedication left a mark on everyone who knew him.

Grandpa Mike was one of the friendliest, loudest, most personable men you could ever meet. He had a way with words that made total strangers feel like instant best friends. Everywhere he went, he made those around him feel loved and valued. He will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty, his dry humor, and the way his face lit up when his grandsons walked in the room.

Some may say Mike wasn’t an overly affectionate man, but every time his grandsons were around, he told those boys, “I sure do love you, and I am so proud of you,” over and over again.

Surviving relatives include his brother George “Buddy” (Shirley), his nephew Jeremy, and his niece Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anne.

His absence leaves an ache that can’t be put into words… but the stories, the laughter, and the memories he gave us will be with us forever.
