MOTERAM “GEWAN” BALKARAN, age 79; passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, quickly and quietly, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Gena; loving father of Ravi and Rishi; grandfather of Ravin, Deven, Sanjay, Arjuna, Shankar and Vedesh; son of the late Sookhdeo and Sumintra; brother of many; father-in-law of Sharda and Elektra; uncle, cousin and dear friend of many. Gewan was a well-known gardener in the community, always sharing his harvest with family and neighbors. We will miss the conversations, jokes, insightful stories, the endless bounties of veggies from his modest garden and all the growing tips. A man of many talents that included, carpentry, automotive repairs and cooking. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always loved a good laugh. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Gewan at THE RIPEPI FUNERAL HOME, 5762 PEARL RD. (AT SNOW RD.), Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 5-9 p.m. and Funeral Service, Friday, April 3, 2026 from 9-11 a.m. Cremation to follow at Ripepi Crematory.
