Listen to Obituary

PHYLLIS MIHALY (née Basile), affectionately known as "Fee", passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Peter J. Basile and Rose M. Basile, and her cherished sister Angela, with whom she shared a deep and loving bond.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Garret Mihaly; her sister, Linda Stancato (George Hertelendy); brother-in-law, David Loepp (Angela, deceased); nieces Laurie Peterson (Kimberly Phillips) and Shannon Codispoti (Dan Codispoti); nephew Brandon Loepp; and great-nieces Madison Perry, Alyssa Buttolph, Reagan, and Rockland Codispoti. Phyllis is also remembered by a large extended family of cousins whom she adored, and many dear friends.

Phyllis grew up on the west side of Cleveland, where her childhood was filled with warm memories at Rose and Pete’s Delicatessen, the family’s store. Though she did not have children of her own, Phyllis was a nurturing, loving presence in the lives of her nieces, nephew, and cousins—treating them as her own with endless affection and care.

Those lucky enough to know Phyllis will remember her for her deep love of babies, her appreciation for good Italian food, her devotion to Elvis Presley, and her irreverent sense of humor that often caught people off guard and always made them laugh. She especially loved laughing with her big Italian family—gatherings filled with stories, joy, and her unmistakable, infectious laugh.

She mourned the recent loss of her sister Angela deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited, along with her beloved parents.

Phyllis will be remembered with endless love and fondness. She will live forever in our hearts and remain cherished always.

Following her honeymoon to Hawaii in 1990, her and her husband made 15 trips back and forth to Hawaii enjoying the beautiful island.
