Rafic Michael Abdallah
July 10, 1933 - January 31, 2025
RAFIC MICHAEL ABDALLAH, age 91; the legendary founder of the Cleveland corned beef restaurant Slyman’s, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of God. Rafic is survived by his beloved wife Mary (nee Najem), his daughters Rita Abdallah, Rima Pavalko (Wayne) and Rosemarie Fini (Frank); five grandchildren (Hana Baran, Grace Pavalko, and Gabriel, Roman and Rafael Fini) and his seven surviving siblings Raymond Abdallah (Laura), Elvira Elnahas (d.Haikal), Eddie Abdallah (Leila), George Abdallah (Georgette), Samira Zkiab (Nazih), Mary Georges (George), and Jeanette Kanaan (Joseph); beloved uncle and dear friend of many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara (née Hanna) and Michael Abdallah, and his brother Joseph Abdallah (Mae, surviving).
Ralph emigrated from Aitaneet, Lebanon in 1956, without having “even 2 nickels to rub together” (as he loved to say) to pursue the American dream. A dedicated family man, he worked day and night to bring his parents and siblings to America. Rafic proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He was a man of faith who cherished time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved telling a good story to any willing listener, tending to his garden with his wife, and chasing that elusive jackpot at the casino.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rafic’s name may be made to St. Elias Melkite Catholic Church, 8023 Memphis Ave., Brooklyn Ohio 44144. https://www.steliasmelkitechurch.org/giving/
