THE REVEREND ROBERT E. CLANCY, Senior Priest-Retired, died Friday, 1 September 2023, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.

Robert E. Clancy was born on 19 July 1948.  His parents were the late John and Anna Mae (Schmalzel).  He was educated at Borromeo High School, Wickliffe, Borromeo College, Wickliffe and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland.  On 8 June 1974, in Gesu Church, University Hts., Ohio, Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Father Clancy’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Cuyahoga Falls.  He was transferred on 2 July 1979 to serve St. Mary of the Assumption, Mentor, as Parochial Vicar.  On 28 June 1984, he was appointed Chaplain of St. Edward Nursing Home, Akron.  On 27 June 1985, Fr. Clancy was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Barnabas, Northfield.  During this assignment he also served as Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Western Reserve Council #5559, effective 17 February 1987.  On 14 June 1989, Fr. Clancy was appointed Chaplain of Akron General Hospital, with residence at St. Bernard, Akron.  During this assignment he was also named Administrator of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Akron, effective 1 August 1992.  On 29 January 2010, Fr. Clancy was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Vincent de Paul, Cleveland, and later named Senior Parochial Vicar on 1 June 2014.  Fr. Clancy retired on 1 March 2020.  Fr. Clancy will be remembered for his faithful ministry to the sick and suffering, especially those in hospitals and nursing homes.  He attended to their spiritual needs until his own health limited his ministry.

At the request of the Father Clancy, there will be no Vespers.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, 8 September 2023 in St. Barnabas Church, 9451 Brandywine Rd., Northfield, Ohio 44067.  The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Martin J. Amos will preside and Father Jack Manning will be the homilist.  Interment All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.

In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and celebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church.  May Fr. Clancy, and all our Bishops, Priests and Deacons who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
