The life of Richard (Rick) George Annable was, in many ways, exceptional. It vindicated the faith in the American ideals and the human sense of love. Rick, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather concluded his duty as of Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Rick was 69 years young.

Rick was a son to the late Robert and Jean Annable and brother to Bob and David Annable. His childhood was filled with laughs, resilience, and joy. He was of a loving home with morals rooted in strong faith. He and his brothers grew up like any brothers would – having good fun while getting into silly transgressions. Rick also grew up exploring the Metroparks as a young boy. He and his brothers would hunt crawfish or slide down the red cliffs, coming home wet and dirty, proving just how good of a time they had. His love for classic American cars can be attributed to years of tinkering on cars with his father. His first love was his 57’ Chevy from when he was 16 years old which rivaled his brother Bob’s European cars. Rick was a role model to his brothers as they were for him, and he had a profound love and respect for his parents and everything they instilled within him.

Rick had a sense of purpose driven duty from an early age that allowed him major success in the Marines and as a decorated Cleveland Police Officer. Rick served as a proud Marine where he was first in his battalion during his training. He then continued his excellency into an exceptional career as a Cleveland Police officer in the 4th district of Cleveland. He also served in the Mounted Unit alongside his loyal partner, Fancy, the horse – which was his favorite time while on the force. He served the community of Cleveland for 25+ years. He impacted countless lives during his career as a protector, guide, and friend. With that, came a big heart which fueled his desire to protect those within his community.

In their spare time, Rick & Bev loved to travel. They spent many long vacations on cruises, traveling the US or to other countries exploring the history and culture of other heritages as well as exploring his own lineage. Rick loved history, especially World War II. He was an avid collector of military memorabilia which he took great pride in. His love for cars also continued throughout his life, and of his many classic cars, his favorite was his last – the ’63 Corvette Stingray. He and Bev especially loved driving the ‘Vette on country roads. Last week, when he was unable to drive it any longer, his son, Brian took him on one final drive. The smile and joy on his face said it all. He also shared his profound love with his dogs Puddles & Diamond who are now gone, as well as Sherman, age 15. All were very much loved by him and Bevy.

Rick was the essence of loyalty, integrity, duty, and love. His philosophy on life was rooted in selflessness, doing the right thing, and taking care of family and friends. He devoted 24 strong years of marriage to his lovely wife, Beverly who was his best friend, confidant, and soulmate. When Rick was diagnosed with terminal cancer a year ago, he took the news with grace and dignity. By the grace of God, he never complained or questioned his faith. He was always selfless and through his final moments, his main concern was for the well-being of his beloved wife, Bev. His children, Jennifer, Brian, and Anthony were his pride and legacy. He was so exceptionally proud of the lives his children led and the families they built. His grandchildren, Donnie, Devin, Nia, Xavier, Briani and Tate were an extension of that legacy. Rick believed in

family and everything that it could provide when you invest in it. He would never claim the title, but he was the patriarch of the Annable family. He was someone with a natural nobility. Always focusing on how to lend a helping hand or words of sage advice. Although, cut short, Rick lived to his full potential and gave every ounce of love he could give. His strong faith in God gave him tremendous strength throughout his life, which carried him towards the end. Rick wholeheartedly believed in God’s will, and he fought for his right to life to the last breath. He was surrounded by his beautiful family as he peacefully drifted into heaven. Rick’s memory and legacy will live on through his family and friends.
