RICHARD J. “DICK” NOVAK, age 89, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. John Medical Center, Westlake. Beloved husband of the late Connie (nee Floyd); dearest son of the late James “Dukie” and Lottie; dear brother of Dolores Kratzer (Tom, deceased); brother-in-law of Rosemary Selby (August, deceased), Martha Wilson (deceased) (Art), Julie Richards (deceased) (Fred) and James Floyd (deceased); uncle of many nieces and nephews; cherished friend of Joe Andryscik and Barry Ruben. Dick was born December 19, 1927, in Cleveland. He graduated from Parma High School in 1946, the same year he joined the U.S. Army. He served as a rifleman with the Army of Occupation in Tokyo, Japan. Afterwards he attended Denison University and received a degree in Psychology. He met his wife of 46 years, Connie Floyd, in Columbus while both working at the Columbus State Hospital, he as a medical student and she as a nurse. Later he was employed by the Higbee Company where he worked in sales supervision, was the corporate customer service manager and was involved in market research and information technology. Dick was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying. His favorite pastime was driving sport cars. He and his late wife, Connie, loved boating and traveling. They both cherished sharing their home with pets. Dick was proud of his Polish heritage and always enjoyed a good joke.
