RONALD JAMES KONKOLY, age 80, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Ron was the beloved husband of Sharon (nee Lash) for 58 years; a loving father to Jeffrey J., Adam S., and Jonathan P. (Ann); and a proud grandfather to Maggie Rose, Olivia Ann, William Auletta, and Ryan Auletta. He was the son of the late Adam and Ann Konkoly; brother of Richard Konkoly (deceased) (Mary Grace) and Robert Konkoly (Marilyn, deceased); and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ron attended Benedictine High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton. Following graduation, he served his country as a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran with the 101st Airborne Division. After his military service, Ron began his professional career as an accountant, working at Childers, St. Joseph Christian Life Center, and Coyne-Kangesser.
Later in life, Ron made a meaningful career change, earning his master’s degree from Cleveland State University and becoming a therapist. He founded Sunrise Counseling in Geneva, Ohio, where he practiced for many years and built lasting relationships with those he served.
Ron met Sharon, a Marymount High School student, at a donkey basketball game held at Benedictine. That chance meeting marked the beginning of a partnership that lasted nearly six decades and was grounded in faith, family, and deep mutual respect.
Ron was an avid golfer from high school through most of his adult life. He was also a lifelong Cleveland sports fan, especially devoted to the Cleveland Browns. He followed the team with loyalty and good humor through many tough seasons and took joy in seeing the Browns defeat their longtime rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, one final time.
In later years, Ron and Sharon lived in Geneva, Ohio, where they also owned an alpaca farm. During this time, Ron continued his counseling practice, enjoyed making wine and sharing it with family and friends, and spent meaningful time with those closest to him.
Ron was thoughtful, kind, and deeply considerate. He had a good sense of humor, loved to dance, and had an easy way of making people feel comfortable and understood. A natural jokester, he was known for quick jabs, dry one-liners, and classic dad jokes that often brought an unexpected smile. Ron was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather, and someone whose steady presence left a lasting impression.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on through the many lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, Ron asked that donations be made to Centering Space (https://centeringspace.org/support/donate/).
