SUSAN GRACE DETORRE, passed away peacefully, and went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 20, 2021. With a heart full of love and kindness, she touched the lives of many in every aspect of her life. Susan was deeply spiritual and bursting with joy. She demonstrated her love for the Lord through song with the worship team at St. Mark’s Church in Brunswick and multiple other Christian ministries. She was a prayer intercessor for our nation and her friends. Susan was also an acting member and deacon at Tikvat Y’Israel Messianic Synagogue. Decades of teaching provided Susan with pride and satisfaction, first at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C., then Marymount High School, King’s Academy, The Covenant, and Shaker Heights High School. She brought insight and expertise to every child she encountered in classrooms and in her private tutoring practice. Susan reveled in the arts, the beauty of nature and all things theatre. As a drama major at Ursuline College, Susan was a skilled director of student productions such as The King and I, and an entertainer, providing her own gut-splitting renditions of her favorite I Love Lucy episodes. Phi Beta, an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts, recently recognized Susan with the Helen Grace Warwick Award for a lifetime of service. Susan loved to travel, on the annual trips with her sisters, and to destinations in the United States, Europe, South America, the Caribbean Islands, and closer to home, Lake Chautauqua. Susan loved her family and is survived by her brother Russell Detorre (Norma). A loving aunt to Peter, Albert, and John Detorre, Robert, Tom and Richard Cribbs, Joseph Hageman (Shawn), Laura Breno Hodge (Brian), Angela Breno, Jane Birschbach (Arthur), Ann Brehm (Steve), and Fred Birschbach and Mary Hokanson (Chris). Great-aunt to Robyn, Brittany, and many more. Preceeded in death by her parents Albert J. Detorre and Rita Detorre (nee Machovina) and sisters Joan Winchester (Gene), Elaine Marino (Ben), and Janet Breno (Dale). A life-long teacher and prayer warrior, her warmth and generosity will never be forgotten. All services at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1330 N.
