TONY GALLO, age 78, loving husband and father, founder of the Century Lounge and weekly roundtable card games in The Lilly, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12th, 2019. His legacy willfully endures through his wife and best friend – Annette; brothers and sisters - Mike (deceased), Joe, Mario, Frank (deceased), Frances, Mary Jane; three sons - Tony (Tanya), Angelo (Young), Mark (Ann Marie) and daughter Autumn; grandchildren - Tony III (Anna), Frank, Josie, Hayley; great-grandchildren - Will and Nico; and obedient four legged friends Scout, Frosty and Patches.
Tony will be best remembered for his hard work, dedication and commitment to his family. There was never an obstacle or project too large to overcome, or that he didn’t have a spare part for in his garage. “Working smarter, not harder” was his mantra, but not at the expense or disadvantage of others. He instilled in his children perseverance and resilience. His attitudes of loyalty, determination, and strength were often physically manifested in a raised eyebrow, or two. His charm and charisma, in addition to his cunning good looks, helped him to create and propel The Century Lounge to the pinnacle of success, good times and place of relaxation that it ultimately became on the West Side of Cleveland. Throughout his life, and his many entrepreneurial endeavors, he touched many lives. Tony was always willing to lend a helping hand, or dollar, to someone who demonstrated a need for it. He served as an inspiration to many who sought mentoring, support or an opinion (and a strong one at that) on what to do.
In his later years, he mostly enjoyed spending time at his compound with his wife, family and friends. Many great memories were fortified there and for most, it will be what he is best remembered for. Beautiful weddings, graduations, birthday parties and holidays were just some of the times when people were together to celebrate. His thumbs were oftentimes green, mostly from his gardening - he could stuff one mean pepper, but sometimes from the cash he made at Sunday card games. If challenged, Tony would always persevere, including any sweets that were left unattended in the kitchen.
As all can attest, he was a loving, caring and inspiring man. His legacy will continue and live on in the hearts of all who came in contact with him over the years.
