William “Bill” Thomas, 78, of Parma, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026. He was a devoted and truly wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who meant the world to his family.

Bill was born on July 11, 1947, in Madeira, Ohio, to Harry & Fern. While growing up, he shared a special bond with his sister, Marilyn, and spent his early years exploring the outdoors—pestering the local town hogs and spending his summer days creeking.

As a young man, Bill spent time as a bat boy for a prominent semi-professional ballclub, and he also loved caddying at a local private golf course, where he often managed to sneak in a few rounds of his own after the members had finished.

He later attended Ohio University, where he spent time on “the wall” at College Green. He bartended and managed at the CI, sharing many fond stories from those memorable days.

Bill built a life centered around family in Parma, Ohio, where he was known as a fun, loving, and devoted father to Nicholas Thomas (Allison) and Laura Thomas (Brandon). He took great pride in being actively involved in their lives, coaching their youth sports - softball, baseball, and basketball teams, and supporting them in every way.

He dedicated his professional life to the insurance industry, working as a Senior Claims Examiner with State Auto Insurance. Bill was known as the person everyone turned to with technical questions—he always had the answer and was respected for his knowledge and willingness to help.

Bill enjoyed bowling leagues with his work buddies, participating in golf outings, and traveling out west—especially trips to Las Vegas, where he enjoyed playing craps and slots. He also cherished visits to San Diego to spend time with his mother, sister, and extended family.

Above all, Bill loved his family. He was a proud grandfather to Finley, Ella, William, and Flynn, who brought him immense joy and were a constant source of pride.

He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Ireland, his niece, Tera Ireland, and his former wife, Elaine Buccieri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Thomas and Fern (Helfrich), and his nephew, Deron Ireland.

Those who knew Bill will remember him for his devotion to his family, strength, and kind soul. He touched many lives and will be remembered most for the love he gave and the example he set.

Bill’s memory will live on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched. We will always remember him spending his days playing golf, watching Cleveland sports, and relaxing in his favorite recliner.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the near future to honor him.

Forever in our hearts.
